About FoodRealm

Emily Foodrealm
Hey There – Welcome to My Kitchen Corner! 👋

my gloriously messy corner of the internet where recipes, emotions, and questionable kitchen decisions collide.

The Accidental Beginning (Or: How I Burned My Way Into Blogging)

FoodRealm didn’t start as a “brand” or a “project” or anything remotely organized — it began because I once tried to save a chili recipe on the back of a grocery receipt from Trader Joe’s and then immediately lost it (obviously). I’ve always been that Midwest-born, West Coast–adopted kitchen gremlin who thinks she’ll totally remember the tweaks she made (“just a pinch more cumin,” Emily? Really?). Anyway, one Thanksgiving morning — picture flour in my hair, timer beeping, my neighbor dropping off those cinnamon rolls she makes once a year — I realized I needed a real home for the chaos. So here we are. Welcome to the corner of the internet where things spill, feelings happen, and food saves the day more often than I do.

✨ Why I Cook (Besides the Emotional Support Snacks)

Cooking has always been my weird little love language — messy, dramatic, occasionally unhinged, but deeply, deeply personal. I grew up believing a good meal could fix anything (and honestly? It still can), but my approach has never been polished. I mean, remember the Great Lemon Bar Meltdown of 2021? Yeah. That. I talk about food the way some people talk about childhood epiphanies: too loudly, too passionately, with way too many parentheses (sorry in advance 🤷‍♀️). But food feels emotional to me — the sizzle of butter, the smell of roasted garlic, the quiet magic of stirring something that just works. If you’re here for perfection, oops… but if you’re here for heart, hi. I got plenty.

✨ 3. What You’ll Find in My Kitchen Realm (Besides Utter Chaos)

This blog is my kitchen diary — equal parts recipes, confessions, late-night cravings, and lessons learned the hard way (like: don’t broil anything while distracted by neighborhood fireworks). I want you to feel like you’re cooking with a friend who hands you a spatula, laughs at the mess, and tells you it’s okay if your first pancake is a disaster because same. I’m not a chef, just a wildly enthusiastic home cook who believes joy is an ingredient and mistakes are seasoning. So stay, cook with me, and let’s make meals that feel like memories — even if some of them start with, “Okay wow, I’m already rambling, but listen…”

I’m Hannah — the one in the FoodRealm kitchen who keeps things a little calmer, a little simpler, and usually a bit more Southern, whether that means stirring a pot of beans on a quiet Sunday morning or picking up tomatoes from the farm stand off Highway 23 because they’re always juicier this time of year (don’t ask me why, they just are). I like recipes that make sense for real life, the kind you can pull together after work without turning your whole kitchen upside down, and I’ll always share the small tricks that make them better — like letting cornbread rest a minute longer or using the good butter when it really matters — and honestly, if a dish doesn’t taste like something you’d proudly serve to family on the porch at dusk, then it’s not ready yet, at least not in my book

Warm. Quiet. Comforting. That’s the space I cook from most days here in the Pacific Northwest, usually while the kids scatter backpacks across the entryway after another misty school morning and the hills outside our window blur under that familiar fog. I’m Rachel, and I tend to anchor myself in recipes the same way I anchor our home — gently, intentionally, with ingredients I pick up from New Seasons or the Saturday farmer’s market when the apples are crisp and the air smells like rain. Cooking is how I slow the world down just a little, letting the steam rise from a pot while I think through the day, and somewhere in the middle of it all I find a moment that feels like a breath — anyway, I’m wandering now, but what I mean is that the meals I share here are the ones that hold us steady during busy weeks and quiet weekends alike, the ones that make the house feel warm even before dinner reaches the table.
