  • 4 cups potatoes, sliced (Yukon or russet) Slice potatoes medium-thick.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped Provides flavor.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite melty kind) Can use basic or artisanal cheese.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute for cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup milk For the creamy binder.
  • Salt and pepper to taste To season the dish.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adds flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Enhances overall taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onion until the beef is cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the beef mixture, and half of the cheese. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty casserole!
