Ingredients
  

For the Garlic Bread
  • 1 loaf ciabatta loaf, split in half lengthwise Use good quality ciabatta for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened for easy spreading.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adjust to taste.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste Season to your preference.
For the Sloppy Joe Filling
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Classic mozzarella works best.
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar adds flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil For cooking beef.
  • 1 pound ground beef You can substitute with turkey or a vegetarian alternative.
  • ½ cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • cups ketchup
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Butter the split sides of the ciabatta loaf generously.
  3. Sprinkle the buttered sides with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Cooking the Filling
  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, then add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent and garlic is fragrant.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and additional salt and pepper.
  4. Combine the beef mixture with the sauce, stirring until well combined.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Layer the sloppy joe mixture onto the buttered garlic bread.
  2. Top with shredded mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheeses.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Remove from oven and slice into portions. Serve warm.
