Ingredients
  

For the marinade
  • 1 cup plain yogurt Greek yogurt is recommended.
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice Freshly squeezed lemon juice preferred.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil Use good quality extra virgin olive oil.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic adds the best flavor.
  • 1 tsp cumin Ground cumin for an earthy flavor.
  • 1 tsp paprika Smoked paprika is highly recommended.
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric Adds color and mild flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust according to preference.
For serving
  • Pita bread or rice For serving the chicken.
  • Optional: fresh vegetables Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers as toppings.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  2. Cook the marinated chicken until cooked through, about 6-7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  3. Remove the chicken from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
  4. Slice the chicken and serve in pita bread, over rice, or in a salad bowl.
  5. Top with the creamy garlic sauce and fresh vegetables as desired.

Notes

For a creamy garlic sauce, mix yogurt, lemon, garlic, and a pinch of salt. Marinate the chicken for at least one hour for best flavor. You can freeze the marinated chicken for up to 3 months.
