For the tacos
  • 1 pound chicken breast Shredded after cooking
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce For flavoring the chicken
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce To add sweetness and umami
  • 1 cup coleslaw mix Can be replaced with homemade slaw
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar For dressing the slaw
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil For the slaw; use high-quality if desired
  • 4 pieces green onions Chopped for garnish
  • as needed oil neutral oil for frying Canola or vegetable oil works well

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by preparing the wonton wrappers; heat oil in a deep pan.
  2. Fry the wonton wrappers until golden and crispy, then remove and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  3. In a skillet, cook the chicken breast until fully cooked, then shred the chicken.
  4. In a bowl, mix shredded chicken with soy sauce and hoisin sauce.
  5. In another bowl, combine coleslaw mix with rice vinegar and sesame oil to make the slaw.
  6. To assemble, fill each wonton shell with the chicken mixture and top with the zesty slaw.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

Assembled tacos do not keep well; store components separately for up to 3 days. Fry the wontons in small batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure they remain crispy.
