Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or springform pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, combine the melted butter with brown and granulated sugars until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until fully incorporated.
- Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Baking
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden and the center is set yet soft.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top for an extra flavor kick.
- Cut into 8-10 slices and serve.
Making the Buttercream Frosting
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until smooth and creamy (about 2 minutes).
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low until incorporated. Once all the sugar is mixed in, increase the speed to medium and beat until smooth.
- Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt, and beat on medium-high speed for an additional 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Adjust consistency as needed with additional cream or powdered sugar.
