  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream Quality matters, choose fresh cream.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese Splurge on high-quality Gruyere.
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Used for final topping.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust for personal preference.
  • 1 tablespoon butter For greasing the baking dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease the baking dish with butter.
  3. In a large bowl, combine heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish.
  5. Pour half of the creamy mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the Gruyere on top.
  6. Repeat with the remaining potato slices, cream mixture, and Gruyere.
  7. Finish with a generous sprinkle of Parmesan on top.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  3. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

This dish can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. Don't skip on quality ingredients for the best results.
