  • 1 tablespoon sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk Regular milk works; no need for fancy brands.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Real vanilla is best, but imitation can work in a pinch.
For Frying and Serving

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Pour the batter into the hot oil in a spiral shape, making sure to overlap slightly.
  3. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  4. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  5. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Funnel cake is about rhythm — pour, swirl, pause, flip. Ensure oil is hot enough for crispy edges. Don’t overcrowd the pan and feel free to experiment with toppings!
