Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened.
Cooking the Meat Sauce
- Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, and cook until browned.
- Stir in marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
Assembly
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt.
- In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of pasta sheets.
- Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture, then add mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce and cheese on top.
Baking
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Can be assembled ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator overnight. This enhances the flavors and makes dinner preparation easier. Freezing leftovers is also an option—wrap tightly in foil for up to three months.
