Ingredients
  

For the Bars
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg Seriously, don’t skip this! It’s the magic dust.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Icing
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool for 10 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Icing
  1. Mix the powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the icing over the cooled bars and cut into squares.

Notes

For best results, use real maple syrup instead of imitation syrup. Feel free to add nuts or chocolate chips for extra flavor.
