Ingredients
  

Custard Base
  • 2 cups milk (whole or your choice)
  • 3 large eggs Foundation of custardy greatness
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Sweetness enhancer
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use high-quality for best results
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Adds a pinch of pizzazz
  • to taste dash Ground nutmeg For a fancy touch before serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the milk and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. Sprinkle in the salt and stir to incorporate.
  5. Pour the custard mixture into ramekins or a baking dish.
  6. Place the ramekins in a larger baking pan and fill with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
Baking
  1. Sprinkle nutmeg on top of the custard mixture.
  2. Bake for 40-50 minutes, checking for doneness with a knife; it should come out clean.

Notes

This custard can be made ahead of time and chilled in the fridge. Feel free to substitute nutmeg with cinnamon if needed.
