  • 2 tablespoons gochujang Can use regular gochujang; no need for gourmet brands.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Standard soy sauce works well.
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup Maple syrup for vegan option.
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil Adds a rich flavor to the mushrooms.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic provides the best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced Fresh ginger is preferred for aroma.
  • to taste none sesame seeds for garnish Use toasted for extra flavor.
  • to taste none chopped green onions for garnish Can use scallions or regular onions.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Clean the mushrooms and slice them if they are large.
  2. In a bowl, mix gochujang, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger to create the sauce.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the mushrooms. Cook until they begin to soften.
  2. Pour the sauce over the mushrooms and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the mushrooms are well-coated and slightly caramelized.
  3. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  4. Serve over rice or alongside your favorite protein.

Notes

If you want a meatier vibe, serve these mushrooms over a thick buttered steak.
