Sticky Mongolian Beef Meatballs

These sticky, sweet, slightly spicy meatballs are packed with Mongolian flavors and are perfect for a comforting meal over rice or noodles.

Ingredients
  

Meatball Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Can use panko for extra crunch
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped Frozen chives can be used if unavailable
Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce Can use inexpensive brand
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Vegetable Ingredients
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Can substitute with snap peas or bok choy
For Serving
  • to taste cooked rice or noodles For serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, ginger, and green onions. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Sauce Preparation
  1. In a separate bowl, mix together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil.
  2. Add the broccoli florets to the meatballs and drizzle the sauce over the meatballs and broccoli.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through.
Serving
  1. Serve the meatballs and broccoli over rice or noodles, drizzled with extra sauce if desired.

Notes

These meatballs can be made ahead and reheated. They can be frozen; bake, cool, and then freeze on a tray before bagging.
