World's Best Lasagna

Ingredients
  

For the meat sauce
  • 1 lb Ground beef or turkey Choose your preference.
  • 1 cup Onion, chopped For aromatic flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Enhances flavor.
  • 28 oz Canned tomatoes Use flavorful canned tomatoes.
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste For thickening the sauce.
  • 1 tbsp Dried basil Can substitute with fresh if preferred.
  • 1 tbsp Oregano For a classic Italian flavor.
  • 1 tsp Salt To taste.
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper Add to preference.
For the cheese mixture
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese Creamy base for layers.
  • 1 large Egg Helps bind the cheese together.
  • 1 tsp Salt For flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper To taste.
For assembly
  • 9 sheets Lasagna noodles Use no-boil noodles if desired.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded For melty allure.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated Add on top for extra flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey with the chopped onion and minced garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. Layer lasagna noodles in a baking dish. Add a layer of meat sauce, then ricotta mixture, followed by mozzarella.
  2. Repeat the layers until ingredients are used, finishing with noodles topped with mozzarella and Parmesan.
Baking
  1. Cover lasagna with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

Consider using fresh herbs for enhanced flavor. This recipe can be easily adapted for veggies by adding zucchini or mushrooms.
