Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing on low until just combined.
- Stir in the red food coloring, crushed Oreo cookies, and chocolate chips.
- Drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
These cookies can be made ahead of time and frozen for up to 2 months. They are highly forgiving and can handle a bit of overmixing or dough sampling.
