  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring Skip if you want just chocolate cookies.
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies Use store-brand Oreos if needed.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing on low until just combined.
  6. Stir in the red food coloring, crushed Oreo cookies, and chocolate chips.
  7. Drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

These cookies can be made ahead of time and frozen for up to 2 months. They are highly forgiving and can handle a bit of overmixing or dough sampling.
